| A young, politically active, Democratic Party supporter named John (Breckin Meyer) promises in 2004 that he will move to Canada if George W Bush is re-elected. When the inevitable happens, his friends ask him when he's going to carry out his promise and move to Canada. John at first dismisses his friends but then discovers a website which offers Americans the chance to marry a Canadian. John's parents are revealed to be right-wingers, John's dad (Richard Blackburn) in particular, who quotes right-wing radio talk-show hosts. John decides to take a chance and finds a carpool partner named Chloe (Anna Paquin) who will take him to Canada in her car. Chloe is also running away from her life in California. Most of the film focuses on the developing relationship between John and Chloe as they decide together to change their lives for what they believe is the better. |
